Start with the connection
• Park safely and switch the car fully on. • For wired CarPlay, use the USB port marked for data rather than a charging-only port. Try a sound Apple-certified cable; a cable can still charge while failing to carry data. • Unlock the iPhone and accept any CarPlay or accessory prompt. • Make sure Siri is enabled. CarPlay requires Siri.

What should I prepare before leaving?
While online, download a map area covering your whole route and sensible diversions. Download the music or podcasts you want in the app that will play them. Confirm downloads have finished, check storage and charge the phone. Test the planned phone-to-car connection while parked; take your usual physical key. Saving MyBYD's Pocket Companion references does not download maps or music for you.

For a cable connection
• Park the car, unlock the phone and start the vehicle. • Use the vehicle USB port intended for data, not a charging-only socket. • Use a short, good-quality data cable. Replace it for the test even if the existing cable still charges the phone. • Accept the Android Auto permissions shown on both the phone and vehicle screen.

Salary sacrifice: what changes?
You agree to give up contractual cash pay for an employer benefit. HMRC says the tax result depends on the arrangement; qualifying low-emission cars use the normal benefit-in-kind rules rather than assuming the car is tax-free. Ask payroll for the actual net-pay effect, benefit charge and pension/statutory-pay treatment. Get written terms for leaving employment, absence or changing hours. Insurance, tyres and servicing are included only if the scheme says so.

BYD’s corporate site says it had cumulatively sold more than 16.5 million new-energy vehicles by the end of May 2026. That is a global figure across a wide model range, not a statement about any one UK car. The useful takeaway is context: a large global vehicle base can explain why a sales headline exists, but it cannot verify a feature, software version, charging capability or aftersales decision for your exact vehicle. For those questions, start with the right UK model page, owner manual, release note or authorised retailer.
