Restart and factory reset are not the same
A normal infotainment restart closes and reloads the screen system. It should be tried before a factory reset when the display or audio has stopped responding.
A factory reset can remove saved settings and personal configuration. Do not select Factory Reset merely to restart a frozen screen.
Documented restart steps
Use this only where the vehicle has the physical scroll or volume control described in its owner's manual:
- Park safely and select P.
- Confirm that no OTA software update is installing.
- With the infotainment system already on, locate its physical scroll or volume control.
- Press and hold that control for approximately three seconds.
- Release it and allow the infotainment system to restart fully.
- Test the original function only after the home screen has finished loading.
The current right-hand-drive manuals for the BYD SEAL, DOLPHIN, 2024 ATTO 3 and SEALION 7 document this three-second restart. DOLPHIN SURF documentation identifies a multimedia restart control, but its exact operation still needs confirmation for the UK version. ATTO 2 and ATTO 3 EVO remain unconfirmed.
If a short press only mutes or switches off the display
That is expected on models where the same control has multiple functions. A short press may mute audio, switch off the display or enter the screen saver. The documented restart requires a continuous press for about three seconds.
If it does not restart
- Do not keep repeating the action while an update is active.
- Check the owner's manual supplied with the exact model and software version, because controls differ.
- Record what is frozen: display, sound, cameras, navigation, phone connection or the entire vehicle.
- Contact a BYD Store or BYD Customer Service if the screen remains unavailable, repeatedly freezes, or affects safety-related information.
Factory Reset warning
BYD Europe currently describes Settings → Version → Factory Reset as a “soft reset” in its online FAQ. Vehicle manuals identify this as a factory reset of the infotainment system. Treat it as a separate last-resort operation and check what personal data and settings will be removed before confirming it.
Never factory-reset, disconnect the 12V battery or pull fuses while an OTA update is active.
Use the linked manufacturer document or page alongside the instructions supplied with your exact vehicle.
