How to restart the BYD infotainment screen without a factory reset
On the documented SEAL, DOLPHIN, 2024 ATTO 3 and SEALION 7 controls, hold the physical infotainment scroll or volume control for about three seconds to restart the display. Park first and let any OTA installation finish; this is a restart, not Factory Reset.
- Park and select P.
- Check that no OTA installation is running. Safety note: An active OTA installation must finish before a restart. Factory Reset may erase settings, so it is not the button to choose for this procedure; leave the 12V supply and fuses alone during an update.
- With infotainment already on, locate the physical scroll or volume control identified in your handbook.
- Hold it continuously for approximately three seconds.
- Release it and allow the home screen to finish loading.
- Test the function that had stopped responding.
What if a short press only mutes the sound?
The same control can mute, switch off the display or start the screen saver with a short press. The documented restart is the continuous press of about three seconds.

The cited RHD manuals document that restart on SEAL, DOLPHIN, 2024 ATTO 3 and SEALION 7. SURF has a multimedia restart control, but its exact UK operation still needs checking. Use the matching manual for ATTO 2 or ATTO 3 EVO rather than borrowing this sequence.
Why the FAQ wording is confusing
BYD Europe calls Settings → Version → Factory Reset a “soft reset”. Vehicle manuals describe a factory reset of infotainment. That is separate from holding the physical control.
If that did not work
If the documented restart does not restore the function, give BYD the model, full software version and symptom. For SURF, ATTO 2 or EVO, ask for the restart operation for that exact version before trying an unconfirmed sequence.
