OWNER ANSWER
BYD software update stalled or failed: safe UK owner checks
If a BYD update appears stuck, first read whether the car says it is still installing or has failed. Leave an active installation running for its displayed time; after an explicit failure, meet the preparation checks and use the official retry.

- Read the update stage, message and time estimate while the car remains parked in P.
- If it is still installing, leave it running rather than forcing a restart. Safety note: Interrupting installation with a reset, fuse removal, battery disconnection or third-party OBD tool can leave it incomplete. Keep the vehicle stationary during installation and after a failed update with abnormal brake, ABS or power-system warnings; ask BYD for recovery advice.
- After a reported failure, check the required battery level, stable connection and closed doors, bonnet and boot before a retry. Charging must be prepared beforehand because it is unavailable during installation.
- Use the matching model’s update screen and the offered retry.
- After success, confirm completion, the installed version and normal operation of essential controls.
Which menu?
EVO uses Application centre → System → Version update. Original ATTO 3 uses Vehicle settings → System → Version → Software Version → Upgrade. Other editions differ; use the model-specific routes in the linked installation guide.
If that did not work
Contact BYD if the update stays active well beyond its estimate, the retry fails or normal operation does not return. BYD UK lists 00800 10203000, option 2, or +44 20 3307 2546 where freephone is chargeable; check the linked contact page. Use roadside assistance if stranded.
What to note down for support: For this failure, the full installed/offered versions, exact error, update stage and start time help support recover it. Send a requested VIN privately.
