Can I charge my BYD without an app? Contactless payment checks
You can charge without an app where the unit supports direct contactless payment. Read its screen, use the bank-card terminal rather than a membership-card reader, and confirm charging starts after payment authorisation.

- Match the charger and connector ID to the bay you are using.
- Read the unit’s accepted payment methods and price. Safety note: A locked or damaged connector can cause injury or equipment damage. Use its normal stop and release controls; ask the operator to release a stuck cable instead of pulling against the lock.
- Follow its displayed order for connecting and authorising payment.
- Wait for the screen to change from preparing to charging.
- Check the car also shows energy being received.
- End the session using the supported method and keep the receipt.
If contactless is rejected
Read the actual terminal message. Check there is no active session, then try another accepted payment method or ask the operator for help. Repeated taps can create more pending reservations.
Network examples
InstaVolt supports contactless without its app; Osprey lists bank cards and supported phone payments. GRIDSERVE’s example sequence is connect the cable, tap, wait for authorisation and locking, then confirm charging. Follow the actual unit if it gives a different order.
Will I get the app discount?
Only if the offer covers that payment route. A supported roaming card and an ordinary bank card are different payment methods; compare the applicable price.
If that did not work
If authorisation succeeds but charging does not start, call the operator with the charger ID and screen status. If the car also fails at another working compatible charger, use the model-specific charging checks or contact BYD.
What to note down for support: The terminal message, charger ID and payment method help the operator distinguish a declined card from a charging fault.
