SEALION 7 charging cable will not release

How to stop charging and safely release a stuck AC or DC connector from a BYD SEALION 7.

A locked SEALION 7 connector needs the correct stop and unlock sequence, not more pulling. These handbook checks distinguish the normal relock timer from a session that has not ended or a lock that needs assistance.

  1. Park securely and keep the car stationary. If there is smoke, unusual heat, a burning smell, arcing, damage or liquid inside the connector, keep clear and contact the operator or emergency services as appropriate; do not attempt a manual release.
  2. End charging using the operator’s normal stop control or the vehicle’s documented control. Read both displays: low power, a full battery or a paused schedule alone does not confirm the session has ended.
  3. After the charger confirms the session has ended, unlock with the recognised key and remove the supported connector within 30 seconds. On DC, the handbook specifies two presses of the unlock button within three seconds.
  4. Hold the connector body, support the cable weight and withdraw straight using its fitted normal release control if applicable. Never pull the cable, twist, lever or insert tools. If it does not release gently, stop and use the branches below.
Why can it lock again after I unlock the car?

The charge-port lock has a 30-second removal window in this handbook. Have the cable supported and ready before unlocking. If that window expires, unlock again and make one gentle removal attempt; do not treat a relocked plug as something to overcome with force. The anti-theft setting also affects whether release is automatic when charging completes.

What should happen, and what does failure tell me?

Success means the stopped-session indication remains visible and the connector comes out straight without force. If a fresh unlock works but waiting longer does not, that is consistent with the documented relock timer, not proof of a broken inlet. If the operator still shows charging or an occupied session, ask it to end or release its equipment. If the car remains the locking side after a confirmed stop and a fresh unlock, the next step is the exact-car emergency procedure or assistance, not repeated pulling.

Where is the emergency release for this version?

The handbook identifies the charging-port lock cable behind a cap on the right side panel inside the boot. Its diagram on printed page 96 shows the correct cap: open that cap, pull the identified cable to release the connector and refit the cap afterwards. Do not remove unrelated trim or pull an unidentified cable. Use any manual release only after the session is confirmed stopped, the equipment is undamaged and you can positively identify the handbook illustration on your car. If those conditions are not met, leave it attached and request assistance.

What should I report if it still will not release?

Record AC or DC, operator/site and charger ID, session time, battery percentage, both screen messages and whether the timed unlock made a difference. Ask the operator to confirm the session has stopped and whether its connector mechanism is holding it. Ask BYD assistance to check the vehicle charge-port locking mechanism and the correct emergency-release arrangement for your VIN if the car-side lock remains engaged. A recurring fault needs inspection even if a manual release works.

First useful check

After the charger confirms the session has ended, unlock with the recognised key and remove the supported connector within 30 seconds. On DC, the handbook specifies two presses of the unlock button within three seconds.

Read the result

A stopped session and a straight, force-free release are success. A fresh unlock that works after an expired window suggests normal relocking; persistent resistance needs operator/car-side isolation.

Stop or change approach: Stop for heat, smoke, damage, liquid, arcing or an unconfirmed session stop. Do not force the plug or pull an unidentified emergency cable.

Prepare a useful record

AC/DC, charger operator and ID, stop confirmation on both screens, battery percentage, timed unlock result and exact handbook edition.

Evidence and answer standard

Documented normal-release procedure with outcome-dependent diagnostic branches. The date records an evidence review, not a physical test of your car. A forum report can identify a question; it cannot establish a universal repair.
