SEAL air conditioning not cooling or heating properly

If your SEAL is not heating or cooling, check its normal cabin controls while parked before troubleshooting the app. Open the vents and compare the selected temperature, airflow and actual output; for misting, use front demist to restore visibility first.

  1. Park and select Auto with a clear temperature difference. Safety note: Obscured glass makes driving unsafe: stay stopped until you can see clearly. Switch off for smoke, a burning smell or repeated electrical/high-voltage warnings, and leave refrigerant or high-voltage climate work to a qualified repairer.
  2. Check fan operation, open vents and whether windscreen-only demist was selected unintentionally.
  3. Turn off a temporary economy setting that limits output.
  4. Compare the front vents for airflow, temperature, noise, smell or mist.

What the result tells you

Strong airflow at the wrong temperature is different from weak airflow at every vent. If cabin controls work but remote climate fails, check the app, connectivity and current vehicle-state or battery refusal message. Front demisting and rear-window or mirror heating are separate functions.

For the original SEAL with the 2025 RHD handbook EN-250305, select the front-windscreen defrost button on the A/C panel or Front on the climate screen. This sends air to the windscreen and side windows and activates A/C. Keep the compressor enabled when heating to dry the air. After initial heating select fresh/outside air, checking the actual state after app pre-heating. Allow the glass to clear before reducing demist; pressing Front again returns to the previous climate state. Compare compressor, fresh air/recirculation, fan and air direction one setting at a time if mist returns. Check for wet mats, damp luggage, dirty inner glass or visible water; dry removable wet items and clean the glass appropriately. These button instructions concern the original SEAL, not the 2026 facelift. Owner discussion identified recirculation after pre-heating as a setting to check; keep that observation separate from a model-wide fault or guaranteed software/accessory cure.

If that did not work

For weak airflow, ask a BYD repairer to check the intake, cabin filter, blower and distribution path. For persistent incorrect temperature, warnings, unusual noise, leaks or repeated shutdown, ask for climate-system diagnosis. If demisting cannot keep the glass clear, have airflow, dehumidification and possible water ingress checked.

What to note down if you need support: outside and selected temperatures, fan/airflow mode, battery level, warnings, whether all vents or one side are affected, and whether cabin or only app control fails. A parked photo of settings can help.
