How to find a public EV charging receipt for your BYD
Find the right receipt after contactless, phone-wallet, app or roaming payment—and understand why a physical card’s last four digits may not locate a phone-wallet session.

Start with how you paid, not just the logo on the charger. Direct contactless, a network app and a roaming account can leave their records in different places. You usually need the completed charging receipt rather than a screenshot of a pending bank reservation. If a receipt search fails after using Apple Pay, Google Pay or another contactless device, check whether it needs the virtual payment-card number rather than the physical card’s digits.
- Write down the site, date, approximate start/end times, charger ID and amount. Identify whether you used a physical bank card, phone/watch wallet, operator app or roaming account. That is your route to the record.
- For an operator-app payment, inspect its charging history/billing area and the email address linked to that account. InstaVolt directs app/RFID users to Charging History under Your Billing; Osprey says its app provides session records and VAT receipts. Interfaces can change, so follow the provider’s current help.
- For direct contactless payment, open the operator’s receipt service from its official website. GRIDSERVE’s guide says contactless receipts are usually available three hours after the session; that is its guidance, not a universal deadline for every provider.
- If GRIDSERVE’s search asks for the last four card digits and you used a phone, watch or contactless ring, its instructions say to use the virtual account number for that device—not the physical card number. Follow your wallet provider’s instructions to identify the appropriate digits.
- For a roaming session, inspect the account or service that billed you and ask that service if the receipt is missing. Keep the charger operator’s name too, so a billing request is not confused with an equipment fault.
- Compare the final receipt with the session: location, time, kWh and total. If you need it for an employer or accountant, ask what information they require. A bank entry may not contain all the details they need, and a document labelled VAT receipt does not itself establish that you can reclaim VAT.
- If it still cannot be found, use official support with the session details and only the payment identifiers they legitimately require. Never post your full card number, security code, wallet details or bank screenshot in a public owners’ group.
Why does the card number look different after paying by phone?
The payment device can use a virtual account number. GRIDSERVE explicitly distinguishes that from the physical card when locating contactless receipts. It does not by itself mean someone else paid for your session.
I have a pending hold but no receipt. Was I billed?
Check whether a completed session exists. A payment reservation and a final bill are not the same. Use the separate card-hold guide below before assuming two payments.
Can I find it using only the amount?
Follow the provider’s actual search fields. Location, date, payment method and charger/session reference are useful if several sessions have similar totals.
Do I have to create an app account after charging by bank card?
Not necessarily. Some networks provide a separate contactless receipt portal. Check the official route before opening an account you may not need.
