OWNER ANSWER

Public charging payment pending: has your BYD charge been billed twice?

Understand pre-authorisation holds, pending versus completed payments, failed charging attempts and the records to collect before querying a public-charging bill.

A pending card amount after a public charging attempt is not automatically a second completed payment. Some providers reserve funds before supplying electricity, then settle the actual session afterwards. ChargePoint describes this as a temporary pre-authorisation hold, released by the bank after settlement. First compare the status of each bank entry with the charging receipt. Do not assume either that you have been overcharged or that every unfamiliar debit is harmless.

  1. Open the bank entry and check whether it says Pending, Reserved or Completed. Record the amount and merchant name. A pending reservation can temporarily reduce available funds even though it is not a settled charging bill.
  2. Find the session in the app used to pay, or obtain the operator’s contactless receipt. Match date, site, charger/connector ID, session time, kWh and total. GRIDSERVE has an official contactless receipt service linked from its website; use the provider’s own route rather than entering card details into a link from a stranger.
  3. Compare like with like. For example, an illustrative £30 pending reservation beside a completed £12 session is different from two completed £12 charges. Those figures are examples, not current network deposit amounts.
  4. If charging never started, record that explicitly along with any zero-energy or cancelled-session record. Do not keep making new payment attempts without checking the screen: each attempt may create another authorisation and make the evidence harder to follow.
  5. Check the current provider terms for its hold amount and release process. GRIDSERVE says its reserved payment varies by location/payment method and the final session can exceed the reservation. A reservation is not necessarily a spending limit. Bank display timing can differ; do not rely on a universal number of hours.
  6. If the actual bill is wrong, or the reservation remains beyond the stated process, contact the charging/payment provider with your session reference and ask whether settlement or a reversal has been issued. Your bank can explain the status of the card authorisation and any next steps.
  7. For an unrecognised completed transaction or suspected card misuse, contact your bank promptly through its trusted app or published number. Do not wait for a charging hold to disappear if the concern is fraud.
Does a hold prove the car charged?

No. Payment authorisation and energy delivery are separate. Check the charger or vehicle confirms charging and look for the recorded session energy.

Who should I contact if I used a roaming card?

Start with the service that billed your account for billing questions; use the charge-point operator for an immediate charger fault. Record both names so the request reaches the right team.

Should I post my bank screenshot in an owners’ group?

No. Keep card details, account information, authorisation codes and personal identifiers private. Share the necessary records only through the provider’s or bank’s official support channel.

Can MyBYD release the payment?

No. MyBYD is independent owner guidance, not the charging merchant, bank or payment processor. Use their official support routes.
