OWNER ANSWER
Does paying to charge your BYD cover parking and overstay fees?
Electricity, parking and charger overstay rules are separate checks. Read the signs, avoid assuming a charging receipt covers parking, and keep useful evidence if a bill looks wrong.

No—not automatically. Buying electricity and being allowed to leave your car in that space are separate questions. A charging app receipt may not pay the car-park operator, satisfy a registration requirement or extend a time limit. InstaVolt explicitly says its sites remain subject to local parking enforcement. Check the conditions of both the charger and the land where it stands before walking away.
- Check the car-park entrance and the signs by the charging bay. Look for maximum stay, paid parking, vehicle-registration entry, customer-only conditions and any times when restrictions change. Do not rely only on a charging-map pin.
- Read the charging provider’s separate pricing and session conditions. An idle or overstay fee, where applicable, is not the same as a car-park charge. Work out whether the relevant clock runs from arrival, charging start, charging completion or another stated point. If unclear, ask the responsible operator before relying on a guess.
- Do not transfer a rule from another site. Osprey’s current pricing page says it has no idle/overstay fees while reminding drivers that sites can have their own parking rules. Older wording or a different operator’s policy must not become a universal promise.
- Plan to return within the strictest applicable limit and leave a practical margin. For example, if a hypothetical car park allows 90 minutes from entry, a charger estimating another 20 minutes of charging does not extend that parking allowance. This is an illustration, not a named site’s current rule.
- Set a reminder you can receive, and check the vehicle’s charging progress through a reliable available method. Do not assume an app notification will arrive or that remaining plugged in means you remain entitled to the space.
- When finished, end the session through the supported method, return the cable and leave the bay in line with the site conditions. Keep charging and parking receipts separately if both were required.
- If a charge or notice seems incorrect, identify who issued it: the charging service, the landowner or the parking operator. Preserve the site signs, arrival/departure information, session times and receipts. Follow the issuer’s stated query/appeal process promptly; do not assume the charger company can cancel a third party’s notice.
The charger stopped before the car was full. Can I stay until it restarts?
Not automatically. The original parking and bay-use conditions still matter. Contact the relevant operator if the charger failure affects your situation.
The charging app says no overstay fee. Does that mean free parking?
No. It may describe only the charging service’s fees. Check the car-park conditions independently.
Does moving to another charger restart the parking allowance?
Do not assume that. A site may measure the whole visit rather than time at an individual unit. Read the applicable signs.
Can MyBYD decide whether I must pay a parking notice?
No. We cannot determine liability from a general guide. Use the issuer’s formal process and seek appropriate independent advice if needed.
