DOLPHIN SURF update keeps reappearing or will not install

A SURF update notification returning does not by itself mean the software rolled back. Compare the full installed version with the update description, then follow the offered retry only if the car reports a failure.

  1. Read the full installed version and exact returning message while parked.
  2. Open Settings → System → Version → Vehicle Version → Version Update, matching the actual labels. Safety note: The car cannot charge or discharge during installation and most functions are unavailable. Leave it parked, keep third-party OBD devices disconnected and avoid forced resets or unofficial files; abnormal brake, ABS or power warnings after failure require BYD assessment before driving.
  3. If a new installation is offered, prepare sufficient battery power, a normal mobile connection and time with the car parked in P.
  4. Let the installation finish and read its completion message.
  5. Open the version again and compare the release description.

Retrying a failed attempt

The SURF handbook permits a retry after a reported failure and directs owners to BYD if it fails again. Its supported app route is BYD Auto App → main interface → More Functions → OTA Upgrade; actual menu labels can differ.

If that did not work

Ask BYD to confirm the intended release if the same notification returns after success or a retry fails. If it is unclear whether installation is still active, ask before forcing a restart.

What to note down for support: For this recurring fault, keep the full version, exact message/error and approximate installation times. Share identifiers through BYD’s private support channel.
