OWNER ANSWER
Can I charge a DOLPHIN SURF from a three-pin socket or extension lead?
For DOLPHIN SURF portable charging, connect compatible equipment directly to a suitable fixed socket assessed for EV charging. If the approved lead does not reach, have an EV-qualified electrician provide a suitable fixed charging arrangement rather than adding an extension lead.

- Check the portable charger is compatible with your UK SURF and read its supplied instructions.
- Ask a competent electrician familiar with EV charging to assess a dedicated circuit, the socket, wiring, earthing and protection for the continuous load.
- Check the charger, plug, cable and control box are undamaged.
- Connect directly to the assessed socket in the order shown by the charger and vehicle instructions. Safety note: A sustained EV load can overheat unsuitable wiring or connections. Use a direct, assessed socket without extension leads, adaptor stacks or reels, and leave hot, wet or damaged parts alone rather than repeatedly resetting protection.
- Keep the connections dry and the cable protected from crushing and trips.
- Confirm the charger and car both show charging.
For regular home charging
Electrical Safety First recommends a dedicated EV charge point. An installer can assess the supply and plan a fixed cable route that reaches the car.
If the cable is too short
Use another suitable charging location while arranging fixed work. The SURF handbook covers its portable equipment; it does not turn a domestic extension lead into an approved installation.
If that did not work
For repeated tripping, unusual heat, discolouration, a burning smell or damage, stop using that equipment and have the charger or installation checked. Use the normal stop control only if safe; seek emergency help for immediate danger.
