DOLPHIN SURF rapid charging slower than expected
If your DOLPHIN SURF rapid charge is slower than expected, first compare the starting battery level and the charger’s available DC power. A cold or nearly full battery can take less power even at a high-rated charger.

- Confirm you are using the intended CCS DC connection rather than an AC post.
- Read the charging specification for your exact trim and model year. Safety note: If a plug is damaged, unusually hot, smells burnt or shows smoke or arcing, stop using it and keep clear. Repeated electrical trips need the installer; reconnecting can worsen an electrical fault.
- Check the charger for reduced output or sharing and ask the operator if it is unclear.
- Compare power and energy over the session with similar starting charge and conditions.
- Use only the battery-conditioning controls actually fitted and described for your edition.
Which figure should I compare?
The UK specification lists 65 kW DC for Active and 85 kW for Boost and Comfort. These are peak figures. Outside temperature is useful context but is not a measurement of the battery’s temperature. Charging normally slows towards a high state of charge.
If that did not work
Use the operator for a point-specific restriction. If repeated comparable sessions across suitable sites stay unexpectedly slow, ask BYD to check charging limits, temperature management and fault history. Another suitable point during a normal journey is enough; there is no need to make a special trip to reproduce a fault.
What to note down for support: Give support the variant, start/end percentage, charger/post ID, session time, kWh and any warning.
