OWNER ANSWER

Why is my DOLPHIN SURF charging at about 6–7 kW, not 11 kW?

Around 6–7 kW can be a normal home AC rate for DOLPHIN SURF on a single-phase supply. The advertised 11 kW capability uses three-phase AC, so check the installation before treating the lower figure as a car fault.

MyBYD illustration explaining BYD DOLPHIN SURF AC charging at 6.7 kW rather than 11 kW
  1. Check the installer’s handover for the supply phase and available charging power.
  2. Check the wallbox’s normal user limit and any household load management. Safety note: If a plug is damaged, unusually hot, smells burnt or shows smoke or arcing, stop using it and keep clear. Repeated electrical trips need the installer; reconnecting can worsen an electrical fault.
  3. Compare the steady session rate with that documented installation capability.
  4. Use the UK specification for your SURF trim when comparing AC and DC figures.

Why the numbers differ

Active, Boost and Comfort list 11 kW three-phase AC. A charger display, house meter and vehicle can also measure different sides of the charging process; small differences alone do not identify a fault.

If that did not work

If the rate is below what the actual installation should supply, ask the installer or wallbox provider to check its limit and load-management log. If that supply is confirmed and the issue follows the car on suitable AC equipment, ask BYD to inspect it.
