BYD DOLPHIN breakdown recovery: towing and transport safety

Ask for professional flatbed recovery for a broken-down DOLPHIN. Its July 2025 RHD EN_V2 handbook recommends carrying all four wheels off the ground; tell the operator about any locked wheel, steering or parking-brake problem when you call.

  1. Get yourself and passengers clear of traffic where it is safe to do so.
  2. Call BYD Assistance or your breakdown provider and give your location.
  3. Identify the car as a battery-electric BYD DOLPHIN and give its exact trim and generation.
  4. Describe the fault, visible warnings and any collision, underside impact or water immersion. Safety note: Traffic and damaged high-voltage parts can cause serious injury. Keep clear of smoke, leakage, orange cables and a damaged underside; call emergency services for immediate danger. Leave an unsecured car’s brakes and gears alone while waiting for recovery.
  5. Tell the operator about movement restrictions you have already noticed, such as a wheel that will not turn or a parking brake that will not release.
  6. Give the operator the matching handbook’s recovery pages before loading.
  7. Ask the operator to confirm the loading method, wheel support and repair destination.

How should it be secured?

The cited edition recommends professional straps and tensioners using the over-the-wheel method. Straps through wheels or attached to chassis, suspension or body parts can damage the vehicle. Leave loading and securing to the operator.

What about the towing eye?

The handbook has separate, tightly restricted emergency-rescue instructions. Its tow eye is not a general road-towing method or a way to pull out a stuck car. Use the DOLPHIN instructions, rather than DOLPHIN SURF material.

If that did not work

If the booked vehicle cannot support the wheels or move the car as required, ask the provider to send suitable recovery equipment. For locked wheels, ask about dollies or the appropriate loading method before the car is moved.

What to note down for support: Location, exact car, warning, damage and any movement restriction already observed are enough to start the call; let the operator assess brake release and Neutral.
