Buying an Approved Used BYD: the documents to check before handover
Check the inspection record, battery-health report, cover and connected-service paperwork for your Approved Used BYD before handover.

An Approved Used badge is a starting point, not a substitute for the paperwork for the car you are buying. Ask the selling retailer to show the inspection record, battery-health result and the written cover included with your vehicle before handover.
Does this apply to any used BYD?
No. These checks concern vehicles sold through BYD's UK Approved Used programme. A private sale or ordinary used-car listing does not automatically include the same programme benefits. Ask the seller to confirm the vehicle's programme status in writing.
What inspection information should I ask for?
BYD describes a 179-point inspection. Ask for the completed record for the actual vehicle, the inspection date and details of any work carried out afterwards. Our practical suggestion is to resolve unanswered items before agreeing that handover is complete; a marketing checklist is not the same as your vehicle's completed record.
What battery paperwork matters?
BYD advertises a minimum 90% battery State of Health for Approved Used vehicles. Ask for the vehicle-specific result, its date and an explanation of the test. Do not treat the dashboard's current charge percentage or remaining-range estimate as that battery-health report. The programme threshold is not a promise of a particular real-world range or automatic battery replacement.
What should I confirm about cover?
Obtain the written warranty documents with start and end dates, mileage limits, covered components, exclusions and claim procedure for this vehicle. Confirm how any remaining manufacturer cover and Approved Used cover fit together. We are not reproducing the conflicting numerical warranty wording on BYD's programme webpage as a settled rule.
What about breakdown assistance and connectivity?
Ask for the assistance provider's contact details, activation and expiry dates, and geographical terms. For connected services, ask which services and data allowance are included and when they begin and end. Do not assume entertainment data, navigation and remote app access have identical terms. Confirm the vehicle is linked to your own account before relying on remote features.
What should I leave handover with?
As a practical checklist: the sale documents, inspection record, battery-health result, service history, warranty and assistance documents, supplied keys and charging equipment, and a clear record of any agreed outstanding work. Check the handbook matches the vehicle's model and edition. Keep personal and vehicle identifiers out of public posts.
