Safe Android Auto checks for BYD owners using Samsung, Google Pixel or other Android phones, including USB, wireless pairing and updates.

  1. Park the car, unlock the phone and start the vehicle.
  2. Use the vehicle USB port intended for data, not a charging-only socket.
  3. Use a short, good-quality data cable. Replace it for the test even if the existing cable still charges the phone.
  4. Accept the Android Auto permissions shown on both the phone and vehicle screen.
For a cable connection

• Park the car, unlock the phone and start the vehicle. • Use the vehicle USB port intended for data, not a charging-only socket. • Use a short, good-quality data cable. Replace it for the test even if the existing cable still charges the phone. • Accept the Android Auto permissions shown on both the phone and vehicle screen.

For a wireless connection

• Turn on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and location services. • Pair the phone with the vehicle from the beginning while parked. • If an old pairing keeps failing, forget the BYD on the phone and delete the phone from the car, then pair again. • Restart the phone and infotainment system before the next attempt.

Updates and compatibility

Update Android, Android Auto and the phone manufacturer software through their normal update screens. Samsung and Google Pixel menus differ, so searching the phone settings for “Android Auto” is usually quicker than following a fixed menu path. Check the BYD owner manual for the supported USB port and whether wireless projection is available on your exact car.

If two compatible phones and two data cables all fail in the same way, record the steps and speak to a BYD retailer. That evidence is more useful than repeatedly resetting the whole system.

Which Android requirements should I use when old pages disagree?

Google’s current Get started page lists Android 11 or higher with an active data plan for wired use, and a compatible phone with 5 GHz Wi-Fi for wireless. Android Go is excluded. Some older troubleshooting/handbook wording lists earlier Android versions; use the current requirements page and the exact vehicle compatibility, not the older number as a guarantee.

What is the simplest USB comparison?

Google recommends a good-quality data cable shorter than one metre, without a hub or extension. Use the car’s supported data port. A charging indicator is not evidence of successful projection. Keep the original working cable/setup recorded before changing it.

Does it need a separate Android Auto download?

Google describes Android Auto as integrated into supported phones. Follow legitimate setup/update prompts rather than installing an unofficial APK. If it fails only after a phone or car update, preserve both version numbers and the exact prompt before changing more settings.

Connection evidence checked 17 October 2026; vehicle fitment remains exact-car dependent

PRACTICAL NEXT STEP · MyBYD

Your BYD. A clear next step.

Applies to: Google current setup/requirements checked 17 October 2026; compatible BYD build required. Older handbook Android-version statements do not override current provider requirements.

Evidence checked · Review due

First useful check

Check current Google handset requirements and the actual supported BYD connection mode, then compare one direct data cable while parked.

Read the result

The supported projection interface opens, not just Bluetooth calls or USB charging. If a comparison works, retain the result; it narrows the branch but does not prove a permanent repair.

Stop or change approach: Park before changing settings. Keep existing working keys and accounts; do not factory-reset the vehicle, sideload unofficial packages or bypass phone security prompts.

Prepare a useful record

Exact model/build and vehicle software, phone and OS, supported wired/wireless mode, cable and data port, exact prompt and the result of one change at a time.

Keep registration, VIN, account numbers and personal addresses out of this note. Nothing typed here is sent to us or saved automatically. Copy it before leaving the page.

Evidence and answer standard

Handbook/provider checks supplement existing owner guidance; outcomes remain conditional. The date records an evidence review, not a physical test of your car. A forum report can identify a question; it cannot establish a universal repair.
