PRACTICAL GUIDE
How long does a BYD take to charge?
For home charging, estimate the energy you need to add, then divide by the power the car will actually receive. For rapid charging, use your exact model’s published charging window and allow for power to fall as the battery fills.

- Subtract the starting percentage from your target.
- Use the correct usable battery energy to estimate how many kWh that gain needs.
- For a steady AC session, divide energy to add in kWh by the available kW for a rough number of hours.
- Allow for losses and changes in actual power.
- For DC, compare the published percentage window for the exact variant, such as 10–80%, rather than dividing a whole battery by peak power.
Why a 7 kW label is not a fixed rate
The car’s AC limit, supply and charger settings can be lower. Temperature, conditioning, sharing and the slowing rate near full affect the session. The Charging Lab can help plan with your own efficiency and prices.
If that did not work
If actual charging repeatedly takes much longer under comparable conditions, check the operator or wallbox’s delivered-power record first. Give BYD recurring vehicle warnings or a fault that follows the car across suitable points.
