BYD SEALION 7 electric tailgate not opening?

Feature note: BYD describes foot-gesture operation, anti-pinch protection and a customisable stopping position for the SEALION 7 electric tailgate. Availability and settings can vary by vehicle.

Try the ordinary controls

  1. Make sure the vehicle is stationary and unlocked and the authorised key is with you.
  2. Try the exterior switch, interior control and key control separately.
  3. Inspect the latch and movement path for luggage, ice, dirt or loose trim.
  4. Check whether a programmed opening height makes the movement appear incomplete.

If the foot gesture fails

  1. Confirm that the feature is present and enabled for the exact UK vehicle.
  2. Stand centrally behind the sensor area.
  3. Make one deliberate in-and-out foot movement and step back from the moving tailgate.
  4. Avoid repeated waving near a powered tailgate.

If it stops or reverses

Remove obstructions and keep people clear. Do not force the powered tailgate by hand unless the current owner manual specifically instructs it. Stop repeated attempts if it sits unevenly, makes abnormal noises, will not latch, displays a warning or reverses with a clear path. Record which controls fail for diagnosis.
