SEAL charging cable will not release

Safe steps when a Type 2 or CCS charging cable or plug is stuck and will not release from a BYD SEAL.

SEAL
SEAL charging cable will not release

Do not pull, twist or lever the connector. A charging session or the SEAL’s charge-port lock may still be holding it. Forcing the plug can damage the car, cable or charger.

Release the cable safely

  1. Check the charger screen or network app and stop the charging session.
  2. Wait until the charger confirms that the session has ended—not merely paused.
  3. Unlock the SEAL using the authorised key or normal vehicle control.
  4. Wait a few seconds for the charge-port lock to release.
  5. Hold the connector straight and remove it without twisting.

If it remains locked

  1. Check whether the charger still shows charging, authorising, paused or awaiting payment.
  2. On a public charger, call the operator number displayed on the unit. Ask the operator to confirm that the session has fully ended.
  3. Lock and unlock the vehicle once through its normal controls, then repeat the safe release sequence.
  4. If the connector remains trapped, follow only the emergency-release procedure in the current UK SEAL owner manual or obtain help from BYD Assistance. Do not copy another model’s procedure.

Stop immediately if

Do not touch or reuse equipment that is unusually hot, cracked, wet inside, smells burnt or exposes conductors. Keep people away and contact the charge-point operator, BYD Assistance or emergency services as appropriate.
