How to charge an ATTO 2 safely from a home wallbox or public AC post, use schedules and diagnose a missed start.

Before connecting

  1. Use a correctly installed wallbox or maintained public AC post.
  2. Inspect the Type 2 plug and cable for contamination, heat or damage.
  3. Park, switch the vehicle off and insert the connector fully until it locks.

Scheduled charging

While testing, use only one scheduler: the ATTO 2, wallbox or energy-supplier app. Check the vehicle clock, charge limit and any overnight window that crosses midnight.

If charging does not begin

Read both the vehicle and charger message. Try immediate charging, then another suitable post if practical. Repeated faults, heat, tripping or connector damage require the installer, operator or BYD support.

Step-by-step charging diagnosis

  1. Photograph the vehicle and charge-point messages before changing any setting.
  2. Disable every timer, then start one immediate AC session.
  3. If it starts, stop normally and create one vehicle schedule at least ten minutes ahead.
  4. If it does not start, test a different known-working compatible post or cable where practical.
  5. Re-enable only one wallbox, tariff or solar control at a time.

What each result means

  • Immediate charging works: the cable and basic AC path are working; investigate timers, authorisation or load control.
  • Another post works: the original charge point, installation or operator is the likely focus.
  • Every suitable post fails: save the vehicle warning and arrange BYD diagnosis.
  • The rate changes during the session: compare battery level, temperature and home load before treating it as a fault.

Safety limit

Never use an extension lead or domestic adaptor unless the exact vehicle handbook and approved equipment explicitly permit it. Stop for heat, burning smell, arcing, damaged pins, water ingress or repeated protective tripping.
